How to Write a Killer Blog Headline

Utilize Numbers in Your Title

Using numbers in your title helps it stand out among the sea of other posts. It also tells the person what to expect before they’re even clicking on your post.

List Posts Perform the Best

Personally, I have noticed that list posts perform the best personally. People enjoy reading “how to’s” or posts that are in a list format because they’re easier to read.

Use CoSchedule Headline Analyzer

Every single time I write a blog post, I use CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer to make sure that the title that I’m selecting is a good one. The headline analyzer breaks down the overall structure, grammar, and readability of your headline.

It breaks down the percentage of common words you’re using for example, “a, the, how, to”, the number of uncommon words, the emotional words (for this particular post how to and killer are the words that evoke emotion), and the power words.

Don’t be Afraid to Embellish a Little

You have to entice people to want to click through so while I don’t think you should offer full on click bait – your title should be at least a little intriguing.

Keep it short & sweet

Your title should not be 300 words long. Keeping it short and to the point is important and will ultimately give you a higher score on the headline analyzer as well.

Optimize Your Headline for SEO

Try to weave keywords into your headline if at all possible. It is important to make sure that your headline doesn’t sound unnatural so keep that in mind.

Use an Adjective in Your Title

Let’s take the title of this blog post for example. If the title was just “how to write a blog headline” it wouldn’t be as intriguing as it is when I added the word killer.
